Keld Lodge was previously Keld
Youth Hostel, purchased at auction in October 2006,
the new owners started work on the total renovation
and reconstruction to its former glory, as a shooting
lodge.
Work started
on the 11th January 2007, and the ground and first
floor opened on the 6th April 2007, with the final
2nd floor opening some 4 weeks later.
Previously, the only ‘public house’ in
Keld, was the Cat Hole Inn. This was closed suddenly
in the 1950’s after the local temperance movement
bought it at auction, which meant that Keld was in
fact ‘dry’ (and many a book about Keld
states this fact).
However, we can now make history ourselves by stating
that Keld is now no longer ‘dry’.
Keld Lodge can now boast a sympathetically restored
hotel, with 11 en-suite bedrooms, a fully licensed
bar, supplying ‘Real Ales’ from hand pull
pumps, and a large array of wonderful wines &
spirits (including a selection of some of the finest
Malt Whiskey’s), along with the fine dining
experience, that is achieved in our Conservatory Restaurant
(Keld Lodge is already gaining a great reputation
for food),
along with the stunning views over the adorning countryside,
it is second to none.
We welcome children & dogs alike see our competitive
rates under accommodation.
(please note that the only place that we restrict
dog access is in the main restaurant, although you
can dine with your dog in the lounge area, which is
very pleasant and comfortable).
The only thing that we can’t always provide
or guarantee is the weather! We can, however provide
an up to date weather forecast if required.
Communication
We can offer WiFi access at Keld Lodge, but you will
find no mobile phone signal in the Upper Swaledale
area.
